I enjoyed this book, and when I found out it was written by a 16 year old, I liked it even better.
Lil Mz. Understood is for teens by a teen with a positive message and is low-key feminist. Missy is a good natured, flawed yet likable character who is sentenced to a juvenile detention center for sellling marijuana. Instead of blaming her parents, she accepts responsibility and decides to try to improve her situation by seeking positive activities. When Missy finds her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend, of course she is livid, but instead of dwelling on the betrayal, she keeps it moving, and finds love in a totally unexpected place. Whenever Missy finds herself in a difficult situation, she finds the positive and keeps it moving. The teens in my library would love this book, and would be inspired that it's written by a fellow teen.
Recommendation: Read it!
